Mr. Nobody (2009)

A weird movie. Daughter asked me to watch it and...it's one of those weird weird movies, with good aesthetics, a good OSD to boot but lacking a glue for al the elements.
3 out or 5. But worth seeing. Ok 3.5 out of 5. with 5 for aesthetics, slow cam, etc.

And Mr. Sandman !

The Circle (2017)

I watched this some time ago, it's about how Google, (or a similar Amazon,MS,Facebook and whatnot) is controlling our very lives...it's a good idea, could have been better developed, but still, fine acting. 3 out of 5.

The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)

What a marvelous film. I'd bet 99:1 as it was not an american movie, and it was...well, it's an American-English-German movie. Wes Andersan, I know from Darjeeling and he's everything but the typical American Director, and it shows. It's a comedy, yes, but for people that know the Alps, or Bavarian towns, or Austria/Bohemia/Moravia/Hungary, it's also a masterpiece of locations, of color, of ambiance...even the soundtrack is great. It has something in common with The Great Dictator, regarding the depictions of nazi symbology.
A solid 5 out of 5. A must see. Don't miss it. Please.

Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

A Mel Gibson movie...and a great movie. It looks to be just another "hero" movie, but then...wait, first it's a TRUE STORY, second, it's HISTORY, and third...the main character is not really a typical american cowboy with lots of muscles, chewing gum, a big gun, a small brain (and testicles) but lots of testosterone. I'll say no more but it's truly worth seeing, first because it shows WWII as it truly was in the Pacific, it was not a clean war at all, and Okinawa, as I know it, is an ode to the Japanese mindset when thing are not going well.
4.5 out of 5, and I don't usually like American movies beyond 3/5, but this one really hit my bull's eye.

Inferno (2016)

Tom Hanks in another book/movie. I read the book and a few days later, I decided to watch the movie. Being a real-time book, a real-time movie, and a sequel (it's been how many, 2, 3 ?) of Dan Brown's DaVinci's Code, they should be on top of it by now. Well...the girl is lovely, although a bit softer than I expected. Also, they had to massively cut in the timings, and places like Venice and Istambul are shown in a hurry. But that's the marvel of reading instead of watching it going by, you get to see it in your brain at your speed, not being hurried by the Director because it cannot exceed 120 mins.
3 out of 5, and if you're gonna watch it, read the book first!!!

The Man with the Iron Heart (2017)

Reinhard Heydrich at its best...or should I say, its worst. The movie is well directed, my only con is that it should have been spoken in German and Czech 100%. However, it's something I can cope with, since the atmosphere was really caught by the Director Cédric Jimenez. It's something you immediately see, when you know the story, that it will not end well, and so it cannot be a stupid american movie for stupid americans. Photography 5/5, good soundtrack, and again..beautiful color, beautiful Prague, even though sometimes you notice it's not Prague but reinforced cardboard structures :)
4 out of 5.

Assassin's Creed (2016)

What has Jeremy Irons come to...I watched this, as I recently engaged with the AC game series (Origins, in Egypt, and a bit of the one in China) and it looked like a nice Universe. But this movie...just shows that great visual effects (which it has, carefully using lense effects and color filters, smoke, etc) is not enough to get a movie. The story sucks, and mix between modern and old feels as they say.. desynch'ed. All in all.... 2 out of 5.

The Donner Party (2009)

The Donner Party is a real story, though a bit changed, of the odissey of a group of migrants from the East of the US to California, through Sierra Nevada, where they were blocked and forced to spend the Winter, resorting to extreme actions to stay alive.
The movie misses the beginning and the end of the epopeya, which is a pity. But all in all , 3 out of 5.
