Crimes of Passion (1984)

Crimes of Passion or "As noites de China Blue" .. yesterday I saw this, and funny thing, today it was mentioned on the radio.

Quite weird, I was hoping to see this 25 years ago or so.. better late than never.
What I didn't know was that Kathleen Turner was the star.
When real life and fantasy touch, all hell brakes loose. Typical.

The acting performance is bad, not only from the main characters, but from anyone.

I'll give it 4 out of 5, for the story.

Inkheart (2008)

Today I saw this movie, spending a relaxing evening with my daughter. Interesting, for a change, instead of fighting, we hug together and watched how the movie developped.

Brendan Fraser was lighter and better in the Mummy(ies). Here, he is accompanied by a pathetic old bat, a pathetic old dork, an Ali-baba rufian wannabe and a Viking-like fire-breading dude.. and his daughter.

It could be worse... and it could better. A lot better.

Deseo (2002)

Um filme (argentino!) com Leonor Watling (protagonista de A mi madre lle gustan las mujeres).

Vi ontem. Passado em Espanha 1945, num regime Franquista pró-Nazi e ainda fresco da guerra civil, mete nazis e comunistas e o conceito de honra e memória.

Leonor Watling vai "excelente". Grande atriz. O plot é bem conseguido, cenário e fotografia de qualidade.

SPOILER: o final não acompanha o resto do filme. Pena. Não que quisesse um final em si diferente. Mas falta qualquer coisa.

Happiness (1998)

Mais um filme de Todd Solondz, mais uma sátira mordaz às pessoas normais que afinal são-no tanto quanto o mais assumido dos pervertidos. Homens, mulheres, tudo peca, minha gente,tudo é tão diferente no público e no privado.
E por isso, pessoas inocentes, incautos e crianças, acautelem-se, qualquer pacato vizinho pode ser na verdade um assassino, um pedófilo, um tarado, ou simplesmente normal.

O que nos leva à pergunta: Who *IS* normal ?

Não é um filme para todos, é brutal, para adultos livre-pensadores e inquisidores da mente humana. Eu sou, e costumo me divertir a descobrir doidos facilmente, mesmo os que se julgam bem escondidos, apenas com um ou dois olhares.

Winter's Bone (2010)

Vi este filme a fugir, que é como quem diz, vi tipo sample, em 10 minutos corri o filme todo em DivX.

Não consegui agarrar-me à plot do filme. Gostei da actriz, que já conheço não sei de onde, e é bonita. Tem umas parecenças com a Foxie Knoxie. Típica americana com um toquezito esquimó.
Gostei da paisagem típica de "ursos na floresta gelada".

Dou 2 **.

Black Swan (2010)

Vi o Cisne Negro, a invenção para cinema do Lago dos Patos. O filme é um bocadito impressionante, e confunde pela transição realidade/alucinação.

Fez-me lembrar o que uma terapeuta ocupacional me perguntou por ocasião do meu burnout em 2004, durante a primeira sessão. "Ouve vozes?". "Vozes ? Eu ? Não". "Ah, é porque se ouvisse vozes a questão era diferente". "Pois, pensei eu, se ouvisse vozes, estava com um parafuso a menos, isso sim era dramático".

Não ouço vozes, mas o cisnezito, protagonizado pela tipa que fez de Queen Ami(g)dala no Star Wars I/II/III, ouvia e via pessoas.

(SPOILER) Acabou, acho eu, por se matar a si própria, durante a sessão suprema de alucinação.

É normal que várias bailarinas tenham vindo a terreiro porque o filme mostra o esteótipo do "encenador papa sempre a bailarina principal... ou o bailarino principal".

Overall... 3 *** . Talvez um pozito de estrela mais.

Fear, Anxiety & Depression (1989)

WoW, another mental movie from Todd Solondz

The main actor looks and acts a bit like Benigni in his early years, and a lot like.. Woody Allen. The main actor is... Todd Solondz !

For me, one of the hightlights of the movie is his relation with a Blade-Runner japanese-culture'd girl.

The other girl he has a relation talks and acts (but it's not her, she's more beautiful) like the secretary from the Moonlighting detective series from the 80's.

All in all a crazy movie, but quite worth seeing. It makes fun e.g. of urban pseudo-artists, the kind that paint black walls with a white circle and call it Art.

Welcome to the Dollhouse (1995)

Nos ultimos dias andei a perscutar um realizador.. diferente. Todd Solondz.
Filmes indepedentes, retratos de algumas personalidades patológicas, coisas da vida.
Sendo pai de uma pre-teen, ou quase-teen, resolvi ver este Welcome to the Dollhouse.

Bom filme, satírico até mais não, ou comicidade negra... black comedy ? argh. Relembrei alguns dos bullyings que a turma fazia aos toininhos. E os problemas que os pre-teens, especialmente os precoces, e as raparigas, podem ter.

PS: Vou escolher o próximo a ver do Todd Solondz.

A rede social (2011)

Fui ver a Rede Social ao Jardim da Estrela, cinema de verão ao ar livre.
À parte o fresquito, o filme começa abruptamente, desenvolve-se à base de uma suposto romance fracassado (que ao que vi, é falso) que gera a necessidade do puto se por à prova, mais uma suposta inferioridade por não fazer parte de clubes exclusivos, e acaba por mostrar o facebook e o seu autor no meio de processos judiciais, que acaba por perder, ao acordar dar dinheiro em troca do silêncio.

Mark Zuckerberg foi hábil e/ou teve sorte na sua habilidade em se dar com o fundador do Napster, que já ninguém conhece hoje em dia (miudos com menos de 18 anos não fazem ideia o que é o Napster, comprovei)

O filme em si não vale nada, e além do mau gosto de contar a história de alguém vivo (aliás Mark queixou-se disso, como seria normal), parece nem bater 100%.. ou 50% com a realidade.

Ficam algumas piadas engraçadas, e uma série de acrónimos que apenas 10% dos que veem o filme entendem (HTML, Pearl, Scripts, BASIC, aulas de sistemas digitais...).

PS: Dor de corno :) eu podia ter sido um Mark com o Netcount. Tive 500.000 utilizadores em Portugal, quase 50.000 em simultâneo.

The Tourist (2010)

Gostei. Bastante previsível, mal ele apareceu, e tendo em conta que era o actor principal, naturalmente (spoiler) só podia ser o próprio Alexander.

As filmagens de Veneza estão interessantes, embora o local seja banal e a luz demasiado brilhante, por vezes.
Fez lembrar o primeiro livro do Sr. Tom Ripley (esqueci-me do 1º filme com o Leonardo.. sei que se passa lá mas não me lmbro nada de o ter visto... Alzheimer :( )

A Jolie está uma boa MILF.

From Prada To Nada (2011)

Resolvi ver este filme(zito) porque.. as tipas tinham uns sapatos fabulosos e umas pernas boas como o milho. Mas não só !

Era sobre a cultura mexicana em LA, uma das minhas atracções.

Vai daí... é engraçadito. A tipa menos intelectual, em especial, tem umas pernas notáveis. Lembro-me dela de outro filme ou ela lembra-me alguém...de uma novela brasileira ? .. tenho de ir ver quem é.

Season of the Witch (2011)

Vi isto algures em Junho, e na altura pareceu-me fraquito.

Ter o Nicholas Cage não é suffisant, e os efeitos parecem demasiado plastificados.

Nevertheless, é .. (adoro os intelectuais que escrevem palavras em linguas estrangeiras no meio das frases.. dá-lhes um je ne sais quoi .. o problema é às vezes serem tão intelectuais que dão porradas de erros em português do bom).. comestivel, com as suas fotografias de uma suposta Hungria infectada. Na verdade, deve ter sido filmado a maior parte em greenskin.

Acho fabuloso o que os computadores hoje conseguem fazem para imergir os actores em cenários impossíveis de realizar em papelão.

imergir vs emergir... imigrante vs emigrante. Mais de 50% dos putos com menos de 30 anos nao fazem ideia da diferença. 50 ? 70. 70 ? 80.

Deep Impact (1998)

A minha decrepitude mental recuperou... lembrei-me do 3º filme que vi em short succession sobre catástrofes.

Deep Impact, filme de 1998, com o Morgan Freeman a presidir aos USA (10 anos avançado..) e um baita meteoro a caminho da Terra.

Salvam-se uns, morrem outros, e lá vemos Nova Yorque a ser varrida por uma onda gigantes, ainda com as Twin Towers.

É interessante, como ibn Laden realmente atacou o coração da América. O símbolismo é tão grande, que por mais que façam, se querem provocar emoção, revolta e acção num Americano, é devastar-lhe a capital emocional, Manhattan. É isso que estes 3 filmes fizeram: Deep Impact, Knowing, e 2012.

Bem, vamos lá ver, 2012 ainda não chegou. Teremos de esperar por 20 de Dezembro para saber... :P

Knowing (2009)

Ha, lembrei-me deste outro filme de 2009, com o Nicholas Cage. Este é melhor que o 2012. Mais verosímil ? Não sei. Este mete extra-terrestres, e uma super-solar-flare, que é tão possível como levarmos com um meteoro, ou com um super-volcano e polar-shifts referidos no 2012 ( o meteoro é de outro filme...).

Aquilo que é mais fantasioso é a referencia uma medium que terá predito todos os eventos mortíferos na Terra durante 50 anos, com mortos e localização, incluindo a devastação final. E os extra-terrestes bonzinhos a salvarem os chosen

2012 (2011)

Vi este filme há tempos, mas deixou-me uma marca tão fraca que só agora me lembrei dele. Efeitos especiais megalómanos, umas poucas histórias, e um final feliz... salvou-se a Arca de Noé. Tem direito também a uma pitada da hegemonia asiática, a demonstrar que no futuro, quem salvará o planeta serão mesmo os chineses. Ah, e Yellowstone, sempre Yellowstone. Tenho de lá ir depressa.

Vi dois filmes seguidos, este e outro.. esqueci-me como se chamava, de '98, sobre meteoros ou coisa e tal. A ver se me relembro. Há um deles em que um miudo com uma mota salva a namorade salva-se no alto de um monte.

The Ten Rules - Lesbian Survival Guide (2002)

A magnificent short movie about lesbian relations.

It's fun, it's joyful, Michelle Paradise is gorgeous, and it demystifies all the gay crap talk the so called alpha males like to use to hide their own weaknesses. Or good old christian ladies, for that matter.

There are no men in this movie, and tbh, they are not missed.

The Horse Whisperer (1998)

Funny old world.. today I sat down after a 2 week holiday, and wasted that I was, allowed the TV switch to be on for more than 10 seconds and... a movie was playing. The Horse Whisperer. I watched it until the end, suffering the pain of 3 or 4 20 min breaks (fuck the SIC management for that), and ended up with a great movie, for a few reasons.

1 - One of my favorite actresses of all time, that I discovered with the English Patient (Kristin Scott Thomas), was the main actress.

2 - Scarlett Johansson has a great teenage role, and I know *EXACTLY* how she felt, being handicapped for life.

3 - Montana is the set. Montana is my favorite spot in the entire world. I would go live there, any day. I hope I will live there, some day.

4 - Robert Redford is directing and acting, and.. he managed to actually end an American movie in a non-standard way. Meaning, it does not end *that* well.


I'd say, 5 ***** stars.

It's a pity I ignored it for so many years, and a pity I missed the beginning, but I'll get the DVD and watch it properly.

Super 8 (2011)

I went to see this film from an unknown Director (to me at least) with Spielberg producing it. It seems like good old Indiana master is back in the alien business, back to ET and Encounters of the Third Kind.

Super 8 is a funny story, with a nice plot, where children act great and adults not so. Actually, it seems like the director purposefully chose the worst actors he could, and directed them horribly, so that the youngsters would shine.

The plot is an easy one, and the special effects are not that great.

All in all, I'd give it a *** 3 star. This week I hope to see Cowboys and Aliens with Harrison Ford and Spielberg as an executive producer.

Robin Hood (2010)

Alongside Ralph Fiennes and Harrison Ford, one of my favorite actors of all time, I'd say, this Russell Crowe.

I met him in A Brilliant Mind, and later on, as the wonderful Gladiator.

In Robin Hood, he really shines. The movie itself tells a different storyline from that of which we're used to (a bit like the last King Arthur movie), but a great one.

Full packed action, together with pearls of comedy, short-lived, masterful photography and camera views, and of course, the hand of Ridley Scott.

I watched it first on a garden open-air cinema (Jardim da Estrela, 2010), and after that, on a High-Res DivX. I believe there are two versions of the motion picture, a Director's Cut (it's Ridley Scott afterall !) and a theatrical version. I'll have to check which one I own.

What a great movie. Watch it and rewatch it. 5 *STARS*.

Btw, I think just like Robin Hood.

A mi madre le gustan las mujeres [My Mother Likes Women] (2002)

Estamos a falar de um dos meus TOP 10 movies.
We're talking about one of my TOP 10 movies.

This is ofc a review, I first saw it about 3-4 years ago.

A funny story, an unexpected ending, great photography, absolutely stunning performance of all the women involved, a very good soundtrack, with original music specifically produced for this, and last but not least, a tour of Prague !

Directors: Daniela Féjerman, Inés París

Actresses I liked the most:

Elvira: Leonor Watling. This is an Oscar class actress !
Sol: Silvia Abascal. Very very funny and natural.
Eliska Sirová: Herself. The czech actress stopped acting (according to IMDB) with this movie, shame.

This is not a movie to see once. This one of those you have to return to every couple of years. There's so much dialog in Spanish that you've got to slowly capture.

Em bom novo Português, há boé diálogo para desbravar em Espanhol, frases curtas que dão o mote à história, à piada, e à descoberta da personalidade dos personagens.

Inception (2010)

The last days I watched (this is a movie that I didnt bother to watch at once.. the first part didn't really touch me) Inception, a Leonardo Di Caprio movie (Leonardo does look like Nico Rosberg.. or the other way around).

All things said, the idea is a bit like Brazil, the environment bit like The Matrix, and the overall resul is.. ok.

However, it is too predictable, the effective outcome, and both the apparent end and the alternate ending (spoiler: Wether reality is actually a dream or not. To be honest, in the last 5 minutes of the movie I conjured that the movie would end with the gadget spinning endlessly and the end credits would show up. It's nearly what happened. I say nearly, because you can see that the gadget starts to decrease speed and then it ends).

As to the idea that was supposed to be implanted, I must say that it was unnecessary. As the grief would increase, the not-so-prodigal son would find out that if the father was disappointed at him, he too was utterly disappointed with this father, and what better *revenge* would it be, than to scatter the father's empire appart, by splitting the companies.

Of course, that is my *DARK* mind speaking. A more brighter mind would probably work endlessly to enhance the company and gain his *father on heaven* recognition.

What do I find sad ? That this is considered the best Sci-Fi movie of all times by IMDB. These people clearly don't know what Sci-Fi is all about. Star Wars, Aliens and Blade Runner are so much more in the A league than this piece of crap (well, not really, but stil...)

This it it (2009)

Being a fan of the Michael of the early days (Farewell my summer love, Off the Wall, Thriller), I was in shock when he died in the Summer of 2009.
The concert came out late 2009, but I just couldn't watch it, as I thought it would sadden me too much.

Today I watched it, together with my kiddo.

From what I saw, it was going to be an amazing show.

I never believe 100% of media says, and so I didn't believe a lot of the crap the media stated about Michael, e.g. the way he was physically and mentally weak, in those months prior to his death, and how he died because of that.

If there is one thing that catches your eye is his energy, his peace on stage, his relaxed posture. There's no way someone who was mentally or physically weak could dance and sing and act and talk like he was talking days or weeks before dying.

A shame he was killed that way.

For sure, this is a movie, or should I say, a documentary, worth watching, and rewatching, every few years.

The roommate (2011)

Para variar, peguei num filme à balda, na lista das novidades do zonclube. Suspensezito,horrorzito, e uma maneira de agir da personagem principal que reconheci e me deixou a pensar. Por isso o filme leva mais uma estrela do que merece. A crítica parece não gostar. Mas du gostei do desenrolar da personagem doentia.

Romance X (1999)

Depois de ver o Michel Vaillant, no imdb surgiu-me este filme, também do Sagamore Stévenin. Achei piada, e vi. Entra o Roco, o tipo dos filmes porno (um filme fabuloso com a Angela Summmers nos anos 90), e uma miuda com ar tipo filha actriz da série Conta-me como foi.

Resultado ? Um filme com sexo quase explícito mas não porno, francês, ie, sinónimo de grandes tiradas filosóficas em alturas e posturas estranhas, que acaba como os típicos filmes franceses. Não digo o fim. Por acaso estava à espera que acabasse como outro filme francês passado, com a Sophie Marceau, "As minhas noites são mais longas que os vossos dias", mas não.

Vale a pena ver ? Sim. Uma vez. Depois apaga-se.

The Hurt Locker (2008) OSCAR FOR BEST PICTURE

Well.. it's not just quite another of those War movies.

Tuga switching.

Gostei. É duro, bruto, e foca numa realidade que nós, os pipis europeus, não vemos, nós, os que vivemos num continente onde as ruas não explodem em fogo uma vez por ano, mês, semana, ou dia.

Não é um filme que reveja alguma vez.

Gostei do toque no final, do pormenor que uma mulher realizadora, a primeira a ganhar este Óscar, consegue, ao captar o excesso, a futilidade de um corredor cheio de cereais, num hipermarket americano, em contraste com as bombas, o sangue, o pó, e a indiferença com que os iraquianos parecem encarar o que se passa à volta deles.

O Iraque estava mau. Era um país mau. Mas não está melhor. É livre ? Talvez. Não, livre, como devia ser.

Mas quem fala de liberdade sem saber como é a vida para as tropas, e para o povo que lá vive, não faz ideia do que fala.

Nem eu.

Michel Vaillant (2003)

A lot of movies later... eheh...

Today, after, after 8 years, I finally watched Michel Vaillant, my favorite hero, in a movie. It's french, a bit hard to follow the dialogs as they speak fast and eating most words, but I did ok.

The story reminds me of "Le 13 est au depart", one of comics from the series. The characters are mixed up, with Julie Wood as pilot, no Yves, no Françoise, Joseph is young..
Leader faction: Cramer is a fine character, Jo Barret (grim joke) not so.
Michel Vaillant is ok, Stevie Warson, too, but I expected them taller.
La Jonquière ? Very nice.
The cars ? Absolutely fabulous.

All in all, a good movie, makes me want to go to Le Mans next year. Why not ????
